Elana Meyer (born October 10, 1966 in Albertinia) is a former long-distance runner fromSouth Africa, who won the silver medal at the 1992 Summer Olympics in the 10,000 m event.
Meyer set the 15 kilometres road running African record of 46:57 minutes in November 1991 in Cape Town. The record was equalled by Mestawet Tufa in 2008.[1] The record was beaten by Tirunesh Dibaba in 2009, who posted a new world record of 46.28 minutes.[2]
Meyer also held the half marathon African record (1:06:44 hours), set in January 1999 inTokyo. The record was broken by Mary Keitany of Kenya at the 2009 IAAF World Half Marathon Championships by running the distance in 1:06:36 hours.[3]
